On Boundary Bay in Tsawwassen, Southlands is a multi-phase urban development, including a market district, a range of character housing, open recreational space and a network of trails connecting to the coastline. On what was once farmland, Southlands marries an agricultural aesthetic with modern urbanism, to create a farm-to-table community that is connected to the land and its heritage.

We worked closely with Letterbox and Century Group to develop and realize their vision for this project. A key component in the design and development process was to select appropriate materials that would reflect and tie in to the landscape and agrarian architecture, whilst also being able to withstand the elements of the waterfront. One clear direction on this project was honesty of materials, and hence we developed methods to achieve real rusted and chemically blackened steel for stable outdoor use.
